This week we are singing one of my all time favorite songs. Sadly, I'll be at drill, but I think I'm going to sing it with the Soldiers.

Yes and Amen comes from a passage that Pastor Philip preached several weeks ago. It's 2 Corinthians 1:20:

"For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding 'Yes!' And through Christ, our 'Amen' (which means 'Yes') ascends to God for his glory."

It's easy to sing this song and think (mistakenly) that God is going to say yes to every prayer you pray. That's not what this says. What it says is that Yahweh fulfills all His promises in Christ. As you sing this song, I want you to think about Romans 8 which says that all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purposes. Often people read this and think that means everything will be good. They don't realize that it doesn't say whose good, or what good... unless they read further. The good is that we are being conformed to the image of Christ. That means that all the pain we experience in this life is making us more like Christ.

In the same way, we don't have to wait for the "yes and amen." It has already happened in and through Christ!

Will we receive eternal life in Christ? YES!

Have we overcome the world? AMEN!

Are we more than conquerors? YES!

Can nothing separate us from the love of Christ? AMEN!

I could go on, but you can fill in the blanks here. There are so many promises, and they are all Yes and Amen!

How does this work out practically? When Marilyn found out she had cancer, we had a choice. We could live in fear, or live in faith. All of God's promises are yes and amen. Could she have died? Certainly, but she has eternal life in Christ, so AMEN! Was it a painful struggle? Certainly, but we knew that God would use it for His purposes, to bring good, so AMEN!

You see, no matter what this sinful world throws at us, no matter what Satan devises... in Christ, it is all YES and AMEN! May it be so for you also.
